Federation of Master Builders

THE UK'S LARGEST TRADE ASSOCIATION IN THE BUILDING INDUSTRY, WITH NATIONAL OFFICES IN ENGLAND, NORTHERN IRELAND, SCOTLAND AND WALES, SUPPORTED BY ADDITIONAL REGIONAL OFFICES. MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA - Before becoming a Master Builder members must meet our strict membership criteria as well as passing our vetting process. As well as signing up to a Code of Practice members must confirm their trading address and VAT registration details (if applicable). We also check their employers (if applicable) and public liability insurance, verify that they have no un-discharged bankruptcies or relevant and outstanding County Court Judgements and perform credit, public record and director checks – all of which they must pass before being accepted in to membership. Since 2011, all of our members have passed an independent inspection before joining and from 2015 all members will be inspected every 3 years. Member inspections are carried out by an inspector from the British Board of Agrément, an independent non-profit distributing organisation accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service.

Gas Safe Regsister

The Gas Safe Register is the official list of gas engineers who are registered to work safely and legally on boilers, cookers, fires and all other gas appliances. CHAS

CHAS stands for the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme. CHAS is a health and safety accreditation scheme for the construction industry, and often acts as a type of pre-qualification during the tender process. Some buyers will require CHAS to be gained before they will allow you to tender, and this is being seen more often in public procurements such as for councils, schools and other public sector bodies. About CHAS Each month thousands of contractors and consultants (suppliers) apply for work with public and private sector organisations (buyers). To win work, they must meet the buyer’s health and safety standards. Assessing suppliers health and safety competence is usually a lengthy and time consuming process. Suppliers can sometimes meet one buyer’s Health and Safety standards but not another. Being CHAS approved reduces duplication as suppliers compliance is accepted by all CHAS buyers. CHAS assesses applicants: - Health and safety policy statement; - Their organisation for health and safety; - Their specific health and safety arrangements to a standard acceptable to our buyers and to others.
